Te
Mana O Te Ra
is a professional multi-award winning polynesian dance company
home based in Walnut Creek, California under the directorship of Lisa and
Rey Aguilar. The purpose and mission of the dance company is to
perpetuate and present the culture of Tahiti (French Polynesia) in the
most ethnic way possible and to educate not only those who dance within
the group, the local community and the Bay Area, but to as many people
worldwide. The company comprises of approximately 185 members, and
classes are taught through an affiliation with the City of Walnut Creek.
The group was formally established in December 1997, when Lisa and
Rey (after teaching this art form for over 24 years with two other dance
companies), decided to devote all their efforts to the art form ofTahitian
dance under their own tutelage.
The members of this dance company have competed far and wide,
performed in ethnic dance festivals, local activities, and private parties
for many, many years. The name Te Mana O Te Ra carries the translation of
“ energy of the sun.”
